Crocop to Return to the UFC
January 4, 2008
It would appear MMA superstar Mirko “Crocop” Filipovic will be returning to the octagon perhaps as early as January at UFC 80. He is very determined to prove everyone wrong saying he came from Pride as a dominant force to being a punching bag in the UFC.
Unbeknownst to most fans, Mirko had nose surgery recently to correct a blockage which resulted in him having only about thirty percent of his normal air intake. This blockage severely limited Mirkos ability to fight especially in later rounds. The problem was thought to take up to fifty percent of Mirkos stamina in his fights. Even with all this medical evidence to back him up Mirko refused to admit that he may have lost his matches because of this problem, only stating the simple fact that doctors have informed him his breathing was very limited in his matches so far in the UFC.
Mirko is facing his most difficult period in his career, coming off losses from fighters that were heavily favored to lose to the Croatian superstar. At one point after his last match against Cheik Kongo, Mirko actually considered leaving his mixed martial arts career behind him and going back to politics. Fighting is in Mirkos blood though and he feels he must make up for his previous defeats and make it up to his fans.
Crocop has gone on record saying he will fight at least five or more fights, he believes it will be more but cannot give numbers just yet. He cannot fight until his nose is recovered but it should be good to go by early January. There are no signs yet who will be Mirkos next opponent but he has said he has never turned down a fight and never will. Whoever Dana White decides to put in front of Mirko may be in for a nasty surprise.
Though Crocop is not yet listed on UFC 80s fight card, there are rumors that he will make an appearance and at the very least have his next fight announced. UFC 80 will take place on the 19th of January 2008 at noon pacific time and 3 PM Eastern time.
