UFC: Clementi and Guillard Still Feuding

January 4, 2008

Well it seems Rich “No Love” Clementi’s feud with Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard is still not over even after Clementi’s decisive win over Melvin with a rear naked choke.

Guillard had hoped to come out with the win since this was his first match back in the UFC after a drug related suspension. The men had been at each others throats for quite some time and all the MMA sites were talking about their rivalry. Although Clementi does not deny how much he truly dislikes Melvin, he was content to tell the media the match would speak for itself. Of course it did just that, Clementi looked much more solid overall. He went on to say that the trash talking just wasn’t in him, he says he is smart enough to know that anything can happen in a MMA fight and that one would look pretty foolish after doing a bunch of trash talking only to lose the match.

Clementi had a strong game plan from the start, planning to take down Melvin early. Rich believed his ground game was much stronger then Melvins and that he would be able to dictate the flow of the fight easily from there. He went on to say he would always fight his opponent where they are at their weakest, in this case Melvins weakness was clearly his ground game as Clementi had no problem dominating him on the ground.

Long time UFC fans will recall many feuds being ended after fights in the octagon. Some examples that come to mind would be Shamrock versus Ortiz and Hughes versus St. Pierre. In this case though Clementi is positive he will never like Guillard and vice versa. Feeling good after his win over the young assassin, Rich is looking forward to a great year with the UFC in 2008 where he hopes to establish himself in the top tier of the lightweight division. There has been no official press release yet from Melvin Guillard but fans can expect no kind words directed towards his foe when it does arrive.
