UFC - Ultimate Fighting Championship

December 22, 2007

The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is the single largest Mixed martial art organization in the world. Originating in Las Vegas under the company Zuffa it was at first intended as a small tournament for the best fighters in the world to showcase their prowess in the world of mixed martial arts.

Since then it has exploded in a relatively short period of time with huge popularity. At one point in its early days before any real set rules were instituted the UFC was almost snuffed out by critics, it was not even allowed to be shown on almost all of the pay per view channels anymore.

Through Pressure from various officials the UFC reformed with many more rules and regulations establishing itself along side boxing as a sport instead of a violent spectacle.

The UFC has managed to land itself a cable contract with popular television station Spike TV, which has further exploded its popularity and value.

The company has many lucrative markets including energy drinks, workout gear, clothing, reality shows and more. It shows signs of only becoming larger and larger and has recently bought out its biggest competitor, Pride which was Asia’s and Europe’s largest mixed martial arts organization. the UFC has their sites set on being the only mixed martial arts league in the world that matters to fans and so with their weight and assets have been buying up popular fighters and signing them to long term, high paying contracts.

Other smaller mixed martial arts companies have to be content with being a proving ground of sorts for fighters just beginning their careers or older washed up fighters to fall back on because the UFC is going to stay on top for a long time coming. Expect more articles news and info soon covering all things UFC.
