UFC Gains a New Heavyweight

December 23, 2007

Good news for mixed martial arts fans. Dana White has officially signed a 6 foot 3 inch, 265 pound monster of a man by the name of Brock Lesnar.

Brock Lesnar is a perfect candidate for the MMA heavyweight champion if you go by looks alone, if you look deeper into his past though you will realize Brock is a four time all American wrestling champion and winner of the NCAA Championship back in 2000. He is a former World Wrestling Federation superstar and a ex Minnesota Vikings NFL player. His first match in a different league was met with skepticism until Brock Dominated his opponent with a TKO in the very first round.

Brock is now training under one of the Gracie family. The family is legendary in the mixed martial arts world, so for Brock to be able to train under them is an indication of the faith they have in him. Brock will be fighting former Heavyweight champion Frank Mir. Frank was a great fighter in the UFC until a motorcycle accident left him badly injured. After over a years worth of rehabilitation and hard work he came back to win his debut match in an impressive show.

This landmark event is due to take place in the Mandalay Bay Event centre in Las Vegas, Nevada. The match is set to take place on pay per view on February 2nd. Brock Lesnar wants to prove himself a major contender for the heavyweight belt and taking out Frank Mir in a spectacular fashion will certainly get him much closer to the belt.
