UFC 79: Nemesis
December 24, 2007
As some of you may know there is a huge UFC event coming on Saturday the 29th of December at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas Nevada. Fans will get to view a card that has been in the makings for quite some time, expect a great show. For those unable to make it to the Sin City for the event you can order on pay per view, the show goes on at 10 PM Eastern time and 7 PM Pacific time. The top matches are as follows:
Former Champions looking for their shot at the title again, Matt Hughes will square off vs George “Rush” St- Pierre.
Former Light Heavyweight champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddel will be fighting with Pride former Champion Wanderlei “The Ax Murderer” Silva.
Lyoto Machida will be fighting Rameau “The African Assassin” Sokoudjou in a battle for light heavyweight standings.
Rich “No Love” Clementi will be battling Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard in a bout of the lightweight ladder.
Soa “The Hulk” Palelei Will be fighting Eddie “The Manic Hispanic” Sanchez in a Heavyweight bout that should prove entertaining for many.
Originally in the St-Pierre, Hughes bout, it was to be Hughes fighting current champion Matt “The Terra” Serra, but Serra slipped a disk while training and cannot compete. George was called up to replace him and offered the chance of winning the belt back off Serra if he manages to take down Matt Hughes for a second time. Both men have a loss of their opponent, but St-Pierre is accustomed to a longer training period for his matches so Hughes thinks he may have found an advantage.
The other big card of the night is obviously the Liddel, Silva Match. This match has been in the works for over a year now. Dana White, president of the UFC has wanted to get his champion to fight Prides champion for a long time. Since the parent company of UFC, Zuffa, has recently bought out Japans Pride organization, the match is now possible and may lead to this pay per view breaking some viewing records.
There are also several under card fights that may not make the TV broadcast including the likes of Manny Gamburyan, James Irvin and Dean Lister. Check it out December 29th live on pay per view.
