UFC 80: Rapid Fire Coming Up Fast
December 25, 2007
UFC 80: Rapid Fire is approaching fast. It will be the next pay per view event after UFC 79: Nemesis taking place on Saturday December 29th. UFC 80 will be taking place January 19th 2008 at Noon pacific time Three P.M. Eastern and 8PM GMT in the Metro Radio Arena, England.
Fans will be looking forward to the main Event. BJ “The Prodigy” Penn versus Ultimate Fighter 2 veteran Joe “Daddy” Stevens. This will now apparently be a title match because as some may know Sean “The Muscle Shark” Shirk was stripped of his belt following a drug test for steroids and a hearing with the CSAC. There is still hope for Shirk Fans though as his suspension is set to end in January which means if Dana White, president of the UFC, sees fit to reinstate Shirks title. We will see the winner of the BJ Penn and Joe Stevens fight go on to a title shot. If Shirks belt is not reinstated then the winner of this match will be given the lightweight championship belt.
The next card is Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga versus Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum. Fans may remember Gonzaga as the beast of a man that came out of nowhere into the UFC and made short work of the world Renowned Mirko “Crocop” Filipovic with a brutal head kick. All eyes will be on Gonzaga to see whether or not his fight was luck or skill and he will have his hands full with Fabricio who is looking to chalk up a win in the UFC after a loss to Ex champion Andrei Arlovski.
Then we have Jess “The Joker” Liaudin versus Marcus “ The Irish Hand Grenade” Davis” Jess’s last fight ended with a TKO against Anthony Torres. Meanwhile Marcus Davis is looking for his 6th win in a row.
We have Wilson Gouveia versus Jason “The Punisher Lamberton the card as well. Wilson is looking to increase is win 3 fight win streak with a victory over Lambert who has not fought in the UFC since 68 with a victory over the talented Renato Sobral
The final Fight that will definitely be televised on this pay per view is Jorge “The Conquistador” Rivera versus another Ultimate Fighter Veteran Kendall “Da Spyda” Roves. Kendall is looking for a win after his loss to Patrick Cote Back in UFC 74. While Jorge needs a win after his brutal TKO loss to Terry Martin at 14 seconds in the very first round.
There are also several under card fights that may not be broadcast if the main fights go on to long. These fights include the likes of Sam “Hands of Stone Stout” and Alessio “Legionarius” Sakara.
