    That’s not really …
That’s not really true anymore. MMA has become it’s own style of martial art. Back in the day, ppl would come in from different background of styles so the event would be called mixed martial arts, being that it has different styles of martial arts. Now, everything has been so incorporated/integrated into one style, its become a style of its own. Now there are schools that teaches MMA type of fighting.

    It’s like how Bruce …
It’s like how Bruce Lee created Jeet Kun Do, its a mixed martial arts style which is based on several other styles(the important parts at least).

    except bruce …
except bruce introduced concepts unique to JKD, not so of MMA

  9. Anhslaught on December 22nd, 2007 1:33 pm

    Unique meaning?

    Unique meaning?
Bruce took parts that he thought was useful to the style and utilized it, incoporated it. JKD was nothing more than a bunch of different parts of different styles. His footwork being influenced by Mohamed Ali. Today, mma’s root is based off Gracie Jiu Jitsu. We got the “useful” part from other martial arts like wrestling, bjj and mua thai. Conceptually, how is that different?

  10. ryukyuprime on December 22nd, 2007 2:15 pm

    the whole idea of …
the whole idea of taking from other arts and taking what is useful is one of the unique ideas his footwork came from boxing and fencing, not Ali. Don’t get me wrong the kid is talented, but MMA has its place, in the ring. Just like theres a difference between bareknuckle 19th century boxing and sport boxing of today.

  11. Anhslaught on December 22nd, 2007 11:44 pm

    His footwork did …
His footwork did come from boxing and fencing. At the time, no one did it in the ring better than Ali. He even stated in one of his books, that watching Ali’s footwork inspired him and that Ali was one of his heroes. I’m not trying to credit Ali for what Bruce has done, I’m just simply stating what he has said.

But anyways, your opinion is fair enough. I won’t disagree with it. :)

And exactly how old is your little bro?

Before you go and hate on a kid, check the facts muthafucka. He’s top in his weight division AND also won the upper weight division when he had to fight a championship to fill in a vacant spot.

Stop hatin and appreciate his skills in MMA.

This kid is outstanding. My son takes apart pretty much everyone near his age at our school, and I would very hesitant to put him in the ring with this boy. I am going to let him watch the video to deflate his ego a bit. What state are u from?
