UFC: Chuck Liddell Looking For The Knockout

December 27, 2007

UFC veteran and poster boy Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell is finally going to get what he has wanted for over a year now. A chance to square off with the likes of Ex Pride champion Wanderlei “The Ax Murderer” Silva. This match has been in the works for a long time, the two champions will finally decide who is the better fighter.

This will be the first time Chuck Liddell will fight coming off two losses in a row. When asked, the Iceman claimed it did not put any more pressure on him then he normally deals with before a fight. Liddell even brushed off questions that his age may be catching up with him, having turned 38 not long ago. He went on to say that he feels he is still fighting at a good level and that he believes he will continue fighting as long as he feels he can remain on top.

This will be a huge fight for both men as they each used to dominate their weight divisions in their respective fighting organizations, both men have recently experienced defeats and lost their titles as well. Many agree that Liddell is under more scrutiny as a third loss in a row would be very difficult to put behind him. If Silva wins and moves on to an eventual title fight we could see two ex pride fighters battling for the UFC belt as current belt holder Quintin “Rampage” Jackson has been in both the UFC and Pride fighting organizations before.

Liddell has said, though he has been looking forward to this fight for quite some time, he was not sure it would happen. he was unsure he would get the chance to fight Silva after his last loss to Keith “The Dean of Mean” Jardine. Originally the fight was rumored to take place last year, but it did not follow through. Fans were left with a bitter feeling and wondering if they would ever see this mega match take place. When the fight was finally announced Liddell was shocked, but excited the fight would take place.

Look for this fight on the 29th of December Pay Per View this Saturday from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas Nevada.
