UFC: Georges St. Pierre in Training
December 27, 2007
As many fans have read, Matt Hughes is confident he has an distinct advantage over his opponent Georges “Rush” St. Pierre. He believes he has an advantage because he knows Georges usually likes to prepare for at least 5 or so months for fights. Since Georges had to take this match on relatively short notice, replacing the injured title holder Matt “The Terra” Serra, he has not had the 5 months he is accustomed to.
Recently Georges opened up his camp to a few reporters to give an idea about a day in his life when training. Attendees were left very impressed and some may have changed their opinions about what they think the outcome of this upcoming match may be.
Georges camp is in Montreal at the Tri-Star gym. He trains with UFC veterans daily such as David Loiseau, Patrick Cote and fan favorite Rashad Evans. Training started with fighters pairing off and practicing sparring, randomly trying a take down to keep their opponent on their toes. After five minutes a short rest was given then each fighter got a new opponent and did it all again. Apparently not one of the fighters could manage to take down Georges and it was not from a lack of effort. On the other hand Georges managed to take down his opponents easily about 9 times out of ten. His strikes were looking as good as always, calculated and perfectly timed.
There was note around the gym that a lot of the people training with Georges said he was anticipating Serra having to back out of the fight and so had actually been training for months like he normally does before a match. If this were true it would completely throw Matt Hughes perceived advantage out the window. St. Pierre would not comment on this rumor but it seems all of his training partners are swearing by it, this could be a big surprise for Matt Hughes come Saturday.
Look for this mega match to take place on pay per view from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas this Saturday December 29th The winner of this fight will be the next opponent for Matt Serra when his injury heals, we could see either man named the champion yet again.
