UFC: The “Maine-iac” Versus Nogueira
December 30, 2007
Ultimate Fighting Championship fans are in for a huge treat on February 2nd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Not only will fans see the debut of the hugely popular Brock Lesnar versus his tough opponent former champion Frank Mir. Fans will be treated to another interim belt match, this time for the heavyweight championship.
UFC 81: Breaking point, is set to be a great event. Fans will see the return of Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia former UFC heavyweight champion squaring off against former Pride champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira. Sylvia has a record as impressive as his stature at 260 pounds and over six foot eight. Having held the belt on two separate occasions, squaring off against the likes of Jeff “The Snowman” Monson, Andre “The Pitbull” Arlovski and giving the, till then unstoppable, Brandon “The Truth” Vera his first loss Sylvia is not a force to be taken lightly.
Nogueira will be looking to take down the Massive Tim Sylvia to become the first man in history to hold both the Pride and UFC heavyweight belts. Nogueira has fought and won against the likes of Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum, Mirko “Cro cop” Filipovic and Dan Henderson. His MMA record of 30 wins and only 4 losses is nothing short of impressive, especially considering the caliber of his opponents. Both Sylvia and Nogueira will be looking to make an example of their opponent, this will definitely be a landmark match in the Ultimate Fighting Championship league.
